What began in 1996 with a small woodchip heating system and just 300 meters of district heating pipes is now a central component of Tagelswangen's energy supply.

Wärme Lindau AG, a subsidiary of EW Lindau AG and formerly Heider Holzenergie AG, has been reliably supplying the Lindau district with environmentally friendly heat for decades.

What started as a side operation has grown into a comprehensive district heating network with a total length of over seven kilometers.

A large central heating system for Tagelswangen

The principle of district heating is simple: heat is generated centrally and transported directly to connected buildings via an extensive network of pipes.

The district heating plant of Wärme Lindau AG is located at Grundacherstrasse 15 in Tagelswangen. Three wood-fired boilers generate a combined output of 3.6 megawatts there.

It is not just a matter of burning wood. Heat from the exhaust gases is recovered, and fine dust is filtered from the exhaust air. This allows the energy source to be used as efficiently as possible while reducing environmental impact.

The system is supplemented by a wood gasifier. This produces both electricity and heat, achieving an output of 55 kilowatts electrical and 125 kilowatts thermal. The heat generated in this process is also fed directly into the district heating network.

Heat for schools, businesses, and homes

The network now supplies a significant portion of Tagelswangen.

Connected are:

✅ two school buildings
✅ 22 commercial and industrial buildings
✅ 83 single-family homes
✅ 573 apartments in multi-family buildings

Behind these numbers are many buildings, workplaces, classrooms, and households that rely on a dependable heat supply every day.

To ensure this supply works at all times, the entire infrastructure must be continuously monitored, serviced, and maintained.

Working alone in the district heating network

Employees at Wärme Lindau AG do not always work in teams.

Inspection rounds take them along the extensive pipeline network, to transfer stations, and to technical facilities. Maintenance work takes place directly in the district heating plant, at the wood boilers, or at the wood gasifier.

Depending on the task, work can lead deep into technical equipment and combustion chambers.

In these areas, visual and voice contact with other people can quickly be lost.

However, a fall, an injury, circulatory problems, or a technical incident can occur at any time. Especially when working in enclosed, complex, or noisy areas, a call for help may go unheard.

Lone working cannot be completely avoided in such operations.

But it can be made safe.

Digital protection with Uepaa

The solution runs directly on the smartphone and accompanies the team while working in the facility as well as out in the supply area.

Depending on the activity, various safety functions can be used:

✅ Precise location transmission in the event of an incident

If a lone worker does not respond to the pre-alarm, an alarm is triggered automatically. The alarm center assesses the situation and immediately initiates the defined emergency measures if necessary.

This keeps the team connected, even when no one is working within sight or earshot.

Wärme Lindau AG ensures a reliable and sustainable heat supply in Tagelswangen through wood energy, heat recovery, and a steadily growing district heating network.
